With a proven lyrical skill set and a dynamic stage performance, Kaliba was on the rise.  Not only was he gaining in popularity, but he also to be respected in the global dancehall community.  The 6 foot, structured deejay’s growing exposure was not surprising to his peers.  He constantly demonstrated his talent amongst them and would exhaust various avenues to gain further recognition.

Kaliba created his own technique.  He had the swag and brought it all to the forefront.  His uniqueness was recognized by some of the dancehall and reggae’s top producers.

Growing Up Kaliba

Javon Francis was born on November 19, 1991, in Kingston, Jamaica.  He spent his high school years at Mona High School in Kingston.  There he had access to various musical instruments.  This quality time played a huge role in him becoming a musician.  He was especially drawn to the snare drum and the acoustic guitar.

Once he pursued the path of a vocalist, the name “Kaliba” was given to him by a friend.  His friends and neighbors were among some of the first who saw his talents.  They encouraged him to pursue a career in music.

Recording and Building

Kaliba officially recorded his first song in 2010 with producer Supa Blunt.  The song was titled “Here to Stay.” It highlighted his unique vocals and made for a powerful debut.

He then released the song titled “Seh Dem a Friend.”  A successful tune that featured former Gaza artist Black Ryno.  Followed by “Nuh Gal Caah;” which has been receiving solid rotation in Jamaica, the United States, and the Caribbean.

Live Performances

With performances at the Almond Town Jamboree 2010, to Chris Gale’s All-stars Birthday Party in Guyana, May-fest in Dominica and appearances throughout Jamaica, Kaliba had promoted his talent.  He was starting to make everyone in the musical sector aware of what he had to offer.  Additionally, he was planning charitable and sociable endeavors to society.

An independent artist he was working mainly with Fireplace Music and looking to work with a host of other established producers in the near future.

In Honor Of …

Upsetta Records was fortunate to have recorded Kaliba prior to his unfortunate passing.  We look forward to sharing two unreleased tracks.  Both further prove that Kaliba was ready to show Jamaica and the world something they had never seen before.
