Freddie McGregor, Elephant Man & More Add to ‘US Rumble’

New York and Jamaica-based Caribbean entertainment promoters Irish and Chin have thrust promotions for their epic US Rumble, a proving ground sound clash (battle between Dancehall DJs, aka sounds and selectors) in full throttle, unleashing a powerhouse campaign entitled “What Does It Take to Be a Sound Clash Champion?” The timely and clever campaign calls on iconic Reggae and Dancehall artists and personalities to give their candid and unfiltered advice through short video clips to the clash’s 7 competing young sound systems. With US Rumble already winning over the hearts of clash fans through a huge online and street presence of flyers, posters, sound warning videos, artist video drops, media visibility and more, there is no doubt that the event’s new campaign, which launches today, will be a social media hit! The campaign will lead up to the highly anticipated US Rumble, which takes place in Queens, New York hotspot Amazura on Saturday, October 10, 2015.

As the unprecedented buzz for US Rumble unfolds, legendary artists and personalities, including Freddie McGregor, Eek A Mouse, Elephant Man, Cutty Ranks, Merciless, Joe Lick Shot, Richie Feelings, Errol Dunkley, Robert French and many more, have jumped in on the promotions, yielding crafty and inspiring videos with words of advice for the clash’s line up of passionate sounds, which consists of Black Hustler, Broken Silence, Innocent, King Fargo, King Shine, Love People and Nexxt Level. There is an undeniable connection between the artists billed for the campaign and the art of “sound clash,” as many have either provided infinite, tailored music for sounds to compete with in a clash (dub plates or specials), clash anthems or performed/played on a sound system at some point during their illustrious careers.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to motivate and inspire the rising sounds who have landed a coveted spot on ‘US Rumble’….it’s so critical and timely that they hear from some of the most relevant and vested leaders in the Reggae and Dancehall industry,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne of Irish and Chin. “The ‘What It Takes’ video campaign is both enlightening and entertaining, as some inject their comedic style into the no bars held advice.”

The sound system has been the pulse of Jamaican music for over 50 years, transcending many of the famed island’s music genres, most notably, Reggae and Dancehall. The sub culture of sound clash, which has thrived just as long, has an aging population of champion sounds and selectors, who have been active for well over 20 years. As in any industry or sport, new blood is needed to allow continued growth, interest and visibility and particularly to cultivate relationships with new generations of fans. With the aging industry in mind, Irish and Chin devised US Rumble, allowing young sound systems (in terms of years active and level of visibility primarily) a shot at fame that includes slots on the internationally renowned World Clash (super bowl of sound clash), UK Cup Clash (World Clash’s UK equivalent) and a chance to defend their US Rumble title next year.

Irish and Chin canvassed the country for sounds making an impact in their respective geographic regions. The lineup boasts 7 sounds representing 6 states including New York (King Fargo and Nexxt Level), Connecticut (Black Hustler), California (Broken Silence), New Jersey (King Shine), Florida (Innocent) and Virginia (Love People). There will be loads of lighters, horns, whistles and sheer competitive energy amassed within the walls of Amazura on October 10, 2015! Contenders must come with their “A” game! Please join us as we crown America’s U.S. National Champion!
